  All Day Symphony Saturdays   October 15 Symphony Saturdays (Percussion) will be held at the Allegany Arts Council, located at 9 N. Centre Street in Downtown Cumberland. Symphony Saturdays is a wonderful hands-on opportunity for children in grades 1-5 to work with professional musicians from the Maryland Symphony Orchestra in order to learn more about the instruments of classical music. Enrollment is free and sessions will be filled on a first come, first served basis. (Limit 25 students per session.) Session A meets 9:30-10:30AM and Session B meets 11AM-Noon.   All Day Grant County Dolly Parton's Imagination Library   The Grant County Public Library in Petersburg, WV and the Allegheny Mt. Top Public Library in Mount Storm, WV will be launching the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library on October 15, 2011 from 2:00p.m.-4:00p.m. at the Grant County Public Library in Petersburg, WV. This program, sponsored by the West Virginia Dept. of Education and the Arts, provides free age appropriate books monthly to all eligible children in specified counties.   10:00AM 1:00PM Creative Writing Workshop   October 15, 10AM-1PM The Tri-State Community School for the Arts, located 115 Baltimore Street in Downtown Cumberland (in the mezzanine above Hobby’s Plus), hosts the one-day creative writing workshop “ Make Your Own Story” . Looking for FREE activities for your children? This free drop-in workshop focuses on storytelling for young students and includes opportunities for students to verbally tell stories or tell a story through pictures as well as write a story down.
Geared toward elementary school children up to age 12, this workshop will also be relevant for Pre-K and pre-reading/writing students. Parental supervision is encouraged.

  11:00AM 3:00PM Paws-N-Effect Dog Show   The Erin Michele Pancake Memorial Fund will be hosting the 2nd Annual Paws-N-Effect Dog Show this Saturday from 11-3 on the grounds of Taggart Hall in Romney. The event is full of fun for people and pups alike, with: games, prizes, Longaberger basket raffle, food, and a dog show. General admission for spectators is $3.00. Registration for dogs is $10.00, which includes entry in one show category. Proceeds from the event support the Erin Michele Pancake Memorial Fund, the Humane Society of Hampshire County, and Hampshire County Animal Control. We will have games and pumpkin decorating for childern of all ages. There will also be seasonal baked goods for sale. Each child that attends will get a free hot dog.   3:00PM 5:00PM Mind Your P’s and Cure Exhibition   October 15, 3-5PM “Mind Your P’s and Cure Exhibition,” a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Western Maryland Campaign,” will be held at Sanctuary Studios in Flintstone. In addition to the exhibition, the evening will include prizes, raffles, and a silent auction with items such as a season pass to the Cumberland Theatre, a weekend at Rocky Gap Lodge, and an original print by Hilmar Gottesthal. Breast Cancer survivors are encouraged to add to the art installation during their visit, paint their name, hand prints, or even bringing a personal object to tie on the installation (head scarf, wigs, t-shirt) or mementos from loved ones who died to remember them. The event is free and open to the public. (For people who can't make the Opening Reception, there will be a sneak preview opportunity on October 14, 5-8PM and a "Closing Event" on October 16, 3-5PM.)
