Three Hagerstown residents were quickly apprehended after shooting at a house, while driving on Braddock Road Thursday night. Cumberland City Police stopped the car on Washington Street, and arrested Michael Christopher Purnell, Chrstopher Sheldon Lee and Ericka Antoinette Marshall. All were taken to District Court for bond hearings and held at the Allegany County Detention Center. There were no injuries.
Residents Voice Opinions on Rate Increase
Residents turned out last night at the Westmar Middle School auditorium, to express their dissent over a rise in the water and sewer rates for over 2,000 George’s Creek residents. Six options were presented to consider in the issue, including capping what an individual is required to pay; stay with the current repayment system; and, divide the estimated annual repayment among the 2243 customers. The annual repayment is $500,000.
Hall Pleads Not Guilty to First-Degree Murder Charges
Tyrone Hall has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges, in connection with the death of Brandon Carroll of Waldorf. Hall is also charged with the shooting of Ellis Hartridge of Washington. Trial for Hall has been set for November 16th. Hall was recently released from the Allegany County Detention Center in June, after posting $300,000 bond.
Finance Department Shows BOP Savings
An audit from the county Department of Finance shows a savings of nearly $13,000 in the Allegany County Bureau of Police overtime budget. Overall, the Bureau saved the county well over $31,000. During this past fiscal year, the Bureau was approved for $85,000 in overtime. Chief J. Robert Dick says that the Bureau generated nearly $295,000 in grants and contractural services, minus the budget expenditures allotted by the county, resulted in a cost of just over $1.2 million for Fiscal Year 2010.
Man Arrested on 2004 Active Warrant
Cumberland resident Willy Carney was arrested on a warrant, active since 2004, charging him with disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. The charges stem from an incident, in which Carney was yelling and screaming on Euclid Place; he was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment, and after being released, left the area. On Wednesday, he was taken to District Court for an initial appearance and released on personal recognizance.
Civil War Exhibit to Stop in Bedford
The Civil War Road Show will make a stop in Bedford next June. Twenty-two counties will host the show next year, the first of a four-year observance of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. A 53-foot, expandable trailer will bring interactive exhibits and special programming about Bedford’s role in the war. The exhibit will be hosted by Old Bedford Village from June 16th through the 20th of 2011.
